altdivinties.com is dedicated to the celebration of classical myth and religion along with pagan beliefs and religious observances primarily associated with western European cultures. altdivinities.com seeks to bring to attention the deeply held beliefs as observed through classical religious observations as well as the pagan Gods and Goddess, all of which existed in a profuse fashion prior to Christianity's decision to relegate any and all previous religious observances as being "heretical" and taking the term of pagan as being of backwards or of lessor value than those who held the belief in Christianity.

 

What are Objectives of altdivinities.com -

altdivinities.com's main goal is to educate and further the concept of religious freedom through the understanding of the underlying basis for most of our current Christian observations. while it is not particularly my intent to promote or advocate one deity over another, rather it is to show the depth and beauty of human spirituality and this spirituality does not need to be rooted in belief system involving walls, rules and most important dictatorial beliefs. These religious trappings are not necessary for one to be and cherish their relationship to the metaphysical universe, which is more ultimately the important relationship and at its very nature is that privacy that is involved, and consequently, any laws, rules or institutional denials to anyone is by nature, breaking that very important and unique basis upon which the United States enshrined in its Constitution, the separation of church and state, thus ensuring there would nand that no state religion can be established.

 

If you read what the signers of the Declaration said, it is clear their intent was a very complete separation, not a partial separation, nor a wink wink we are really all Christians. They understood what religion had done to create wars and other atrocities in the old World as well as the flip side of the coin which is repression to believe what you wish, hence the division, which unfortunately we are currently experiencing a renewed effort to try and circumvent as well as those who publicly advocate the creation of a State religion.

Thus I chose the name altdivinities not so much to highlight particular deities, but more to advocate and encourage those who wish to do so through better understanding of the relationship religion has played out in human history.

 

In addition to the site, I have created a calendar and will slowly create cards in which those who might want to celebrate something different may unite both theory and practice. (This is the totally fun part.)

I anticipate that if the site and calendar generate enough interest I will expand the calendar by dividing it into some of the various groupings that now exist, in order to further the education and understanding of these beliefs and observations.
