September, named after the seventh month in the old Roman Calendar, is ruled by the deity Pomona, the goddess of fruit and fruit bearing trees. To the Irish it was Mean Fomhair, in Anglo-Saxon, the name was Haligmonath, to the Franks it was "wood month" or Witumanoth, a time to gather wood in advance of winter, to the modern Asatru, it is the month of Shedding and finally to the backwoods' moon of September is the Harvest Moon.

Most notable date is the autumnal equinox, or Mabon to Celtics, Alban Elfed by the Druids or to the Norse, the Winter Finding.
